About this resource

About

Speaksee is a Dutch assistive technology company founded in 2016 in Rotterdam. Its microphone kit is designed specifically for group settings where a single phone microphone struggles to distinguish speakers — a gap left by most captioning apps. Following a 2024 funding round, the company is expanding into the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, and Norway.

What It Does

Multiple small wireless microphones are distributed among meeting participants; each microphone is assigned a distinct colour, and the iOS or Android companion app displays who is speaking in real time with per-speaker colour coding. The AI engine adapts to accents and filters background noise, achieving high accuracy in meetings, classrooms, and social gatherings of up to nine people. Captions are saved as transcripts after the session.

Who It Helps

Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals who regularly participate in multi-person settings — team meetings, university lectures, family gatherings — where a single-device captioning app cannot reliably identify individual speakers or pick up voices from across a table.
