About this resource

About

Founded in 2007 by a coalition of parents, ski instructors, and Steamboat Ski Corporation management, STARS (Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the exclusive operator of all adaptive winter lessons at Steamboat Ski Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Its mission is to ensure everyone, regardless of ability, can experience the power of sport.

What It Does

STARS delivers adaptive ski, snowboard, and snowshoe lessons for youth and adults during winter, and expands to cycling, hiking, horseback riding, and water activities in summer. All specialised adaptive equipment is provided. STARS Ranch, opened in 2019, is a fully accessible overnight facility accommodating up to 27 guests, and the organisation offers financial scholarships based solely on need.

Who It Helps

STARS serves children, adults, and veterans with physical disabilities, cognitive disabilities, autism spectrum conditions, and other impairments. Scholarship funding ensures that financial circumstances are not a barrier to participation.
