About
Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports (STARS) was founded in 2007 by a coalition of parents and Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation leaders with a mission to transform lives through adaptive sport. Since 2010, STARS has been the exclusive provider of winter adaptive programming at Steamboat Ski Resort. In 2019 the organisation opened STARS Ranch — a fully accessible facility accommodating up to 27 overnight guests.
What It Does
STARS delivers adaptive sit-ski and snowboard lessons for youth and adults at Steamboat Ski Resort, providing all specialised equipment at no additional charge. Summer programming includes adaptive horseback riding at STARS Ranch, hiking, cycling, and water sports. The organisation has designed its programming with neurodivergent inclusion in mind and offers financial scholarships based solely on need.
Who It Helps
STARS serves individuals with autism, cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities, and veterans, welcoming participants of all ages. The programme is notable for its autism-inclusive adaptive skiing approach and for offering residential adaptive sport experiences through STARS Ranch for participants who travel to Steamboat Springs.
