About
Surfer's Healing was founded in 1996 by professional surfer Israel Paskowitz and his wife Danielle after they discovered that the ocean had a profound calming effect on their son Isaiah, who has autism. What began as a personal discovery became a national movement: Surfer's Healing now runs free one-day surf camps at beaches across the US, serving thousands of children each year.
What It Does
At each camp, experienced surfer volunteers take children with autism into the water on tandem boards, riding waves together. The camps are festive, sensory-aware events with music, food, and community — a celebration as much as a programme. No surfing experience is required, and every child who wants to ride a wave gets to do so. Camps run from spring through autumn across coastal states.
Who It Helps
Children with autism spectrum disorder aged 5–18. Camps are completely free for participants. Families register online through the website's event calendar — spaces fill quickly so early registration is recommended.
