About
Tecla was designed and manufactured in Toronto, Canada by Komodo OpenLab, a company founded by biomedical engineers with over a decade of experience working with people with physical disabilities. Tecla addresses the persistent accessibility gap for power wheelchair users who cannot interact with standard touchscreens.
What It Does
Tecla-e, the latest generation, connects via Bluetooth to iOS and Android devices, enabling switch-scan access to phone calls, texts, social media, the internet, and apps. It also integrates with smart home platforms, allowing control of lights, locks, and thermostats directly from the wheelchair's existing input controls without any hand contact.
Who It Helps
Adults and young adults with physical disabilities limiting hand and finger function—including those with ALS, high cervical spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or stroke—who rely on power wheelchairs and want independent access to smartphones and connected smart home devices.
