About this resource

About

Since 1946, United Spinal Association has advocated for wheelchair users' right to access appropriate mobility equipment. Their Wheelchair Resource Hub consolidates decades of policy expertise, peer knowledge, and clinical guidance into a freely accessible online resource for anyone in the wheelchair community.

What It Does

The hub walks users through every stage of the wheelchair journey: choosing the right chair, working with a seating specialist, obtaining funding through Medicare (including Complex Rehabilitation Technology rules), Medicaid, and private insurance, and appealing coverage denials. It also links to United Spinal's peer mentoring programmes and the Ready to Roll emergency assistance fund, which helps wheelchair users who experience sudden equipment failure.

Who It Helps

Manual and power wheelchair users—especially those relying on complex rehabilitation technology—and their caregivers, clinicians, and advocates who need reliable, up-to-date guidance navigating the US insurance and equipment funding landscape.
