About
The United States Blind Chess Association (USBCA) was established in the late 1960s to encourage and advance correspondence and over-the-board chess among players who are blind or visually impaired. It is a member organisation of the International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) and works alongside, but independently from, the United States Chess Federation.
What It Does
The USBCA connects blind and visually impaired chess players through email correspondence tournaments, real-time online play via Lichess and Skype using personal adaptive chess sets, and in-person over-the-board events. Members access chess consultants, coaching, and competitive tournaments with cash prizes. The association provides guidance on sourcing appropriate tactile and Braille chess equipment.
Who It Helps
The USBCA serves blind and visually impaired chess enthusiasts of all skill levels across the United States, from beginners exploring the game for the first time to experienced players competing at a national level.
