About this resource

About

USA Hockey is the national governing body for ice hockey in the United States and officially recognises and supports six adapted hockey disciplines. The Disabled Hockey programme page is the primary national hub connecting players with disabilities, families, coaches, and rinks to adapted hockey opportunities across the country.

What It Does

The USA Hockey Disabled Hockey hub offers a programme and rink locator covering all six disciplines: sled, blind, deaf/hard of hearing, standing/amputee, special, and warrior hockey. The USA Hockey Foundation operates a sled grant programme that donates five sleds to qualifying start-up programmes to reduce initial equipment costs. A free comprehensive sled hockey instructional video — covering equipment, basic skills, drills, and off-ice training — is available to any coach or rink on request.

Who It Helps

The programme serves athletes with physical disabilities (paraplegia, amputation), sensory disabilities (blind, deaf), intellectual and developmental disabilities, and veterans. Resources support both first-time players seeking a club and established programmes looking for coaching materials and funding.
