About this resource

About

Wheel the World was founded in 2018 by two friends — one a wheelchair user — after they attempted to travel to Torres del Paine in Patagonia and found that no reliable accessibility information existed. The company builds a global database of accessibility-verified travel options and sells them through a dedicated booking platform.

What It Does

Wheel the World sends trained accessibility specialists to physically measure and photograph hotels, tours, and experiences using a standardised protocol covering room dimensions, bathroom layouts, path of travel, and equipment availability. Travellers can filter destinations, hotels, and tours by their specific accessibility needs (wheelchair type, transfer ability, visual impairment, etc.) and book directly through the platform. A travel advisor service helps plan complex multi-destination trips.

Who It Helps

Wheelchair users, people with mobility impairments, blind and low-vision travellers, and anyone with a disability who has been let down by inaccurate or vague accessibility claims when booking travel. Services span the US, Latin America, Europe, and beyond, with the database growing rapidly.
