About this resource

About

YAI Arts is a studio programme of YAI (Seeing Beyond Disability), one of New York's largest disability service organisations. The programme provides artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities — including autism — a professional studio environment at the heart of the New York City arts scene.

What It Does

YAI Arts offers two studio formats: the Tuesday Open Studio (weekly sessions) and Without Walls (WOW) Studio (five days a week), both providing materials, space, and one-to-one mentorship from professional artists. Artists exhibit at high-profile venues including MoMA, Sotheby's, the Museum of Everything, and Spring Break Art Show, and earn 60% of proceeds from every piece sold. In 2025, a partnership with the MTA placed YAI artists' original murals in two NYC subway stations.

Who It Helps

Adult artists in New York City with documented intellectual or developmental disabilities, including autism, who want professional studio access, peer community, mentorship, and high-calibre exhibition opportunities.
