About
Yoga for All Abilities grew from Sonia Sumar's work with her daughter Roberta, who was born with Down syndrome, beginning in 1972. Over five decades Sumar refined a therapeutic yoga method integrating breathwork, physical movement, chanting, deep relaxation, and meditation — all adapted for people whose bodies and minds work differently.
What It Does
The programme offers in-person classes, online courses, a 95-hour teacher certification (95H), and mentoring. An online learning platform hosts self-paced courses, and the website provides free guidance on how yoga benefits specific conditions. Trained educators and therapists use the Sumar Method in schools, clinics, and private practice worldwide.
Who It Helps
Children and adults with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, learning disabilities, microcephaly, and other intellectual or developmental conditions — as well as the educators, therapists, and caregivers who support them.
