Alliance on Disability in Liberia
The Alliance on Disability in Liberia is a multi-stakeholder coalition of international NGOs, local organisations, and government bodies working collectively to advance the rights of persons with disabilities across Liberia under the UNCRPD framework. Members include AIFO, Sightsavers, The Carter Center, Plan International, and NUOD.
About
The Alliance on Disability in Liberia is a multi-stakeholder platform based in Monrovia, formed to harness the synergies of organisations working in disability and social inclusion. Members include international NGOs (AIFO, Sightsavers, The Carter Center, Plan International), the national DPO umbrella NUOD, government institutions (National Commission on Disabilities, Ministry of Gender), and UNDP as an observer.
What They Do
The Alliance coordinates collective advocacy to realise the rights of persons with disabilities under the UNCRPD. It facilitates joint programming, shared policy positions, and cross-sector coordination spanning electoral inclusion, inclusive education, livelihood development, and social protection. The Alliance reaffirmed its commitment to disability inclusion in a joint declaration with UNDP in 2023.
Who They Serve
The Alliance serves persons with all types of disability across Liberia's 15 counties, acting through its member organisations to reach urban populations in Monrovia and communities in rural areas. It engages government, civil society, and international partners to keep disability on Liberia's national policy agenda.
