Organization
Bahrain Disabled Services(BDS)
A Manama-based non-profit providing specialized services for persons with disabilities in Bahrain, including accessible transportation and community support programs. One of the few independent civil society disability organizations operating in the Kingdom.
About
Bahrain Disabled Services (BDS) was established as a non-profit organization with the primary objective of serving the specialized needs of persons with disabilities in Bahrain. Operating in a country where the Ministry of Social Development carries primary responsibility for disability services, BDS fills an important civil society role as an independent organization directly focused on practical support and community inclusion.
What They Do
BDS operates disability-adapted transportation services — a critical enabler of independence in a car-dependent Gulf urban environment — alongside community support programs for people of determination across Bahrain. The organization works to ensure that persons with disabilities can access employment, healthcare, and social activities. BDS also collaborates with government rehabilitation centers and other organizations to coordinate service delivery.
Who They Serve
BDS serves persons with physical and other disabilities across the Kingdom of Bahrain, with a particular focus on practical daily-life support including mobility and transportation. Services are available to individuals of all ages, and the organization's accessible transport provision is especially important for those with mobility impairments who face barriers using standard public transportation.
