Mexico Coalition for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities(COAMEX)
COAMEX is a cross-disability DPO coalition founded in 2009 that brings together eight core organisations and over 275 affiliates to monitor and advance CRPD implementation across Mexico. It engages UN treaty bodies, submits alternative reports, and leads intersectional disability rights work including on migration and gender.
About
COAMEX (Coalición México por los Derechos de las Personas con Discapacidad) was founded in 2009 as a coalition of civil society organisations promoting the human rights of persons with disabilities in Mexico. It articulates the strength of diverse Mexican disability organisations that together have extensive experience in social inclusion across all impairment types.
What They Do
COAMEX monitors Mexico's compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, submitting shadow reports and engaging directly with UN treaty bodies. It has produced groundbreaking joint advocacy on the rights of migrants with disabilities, leading the CMW Committee to issue specific recommendations to Mexico. Its eight core members span the full spectrum of disability types, and the wider affiliated network reaches 275 organisations nationwide.
Who They Serve
COAMEX serves the full cross-disability community in Mexico through its federated coalition structure. It has a strong focus on intersectional issues — particularly disability and gender, disability and migration, and disability and poverty — making it a vital accountability mechanism for the Mexican government.
