Confédération des Organisations des Personnes Handicapées de Côte d'Ivoire(COPHCI)
National confederation established in 2012 that unites over a dozen disability-specific federations in Côte d'Ivoire to advocate for inclusion, employment, and equal rights for persons with disabilities. COPHCI runs awareness campaigns, stakeholder workshops, and engages government bodies on disability policy and economic participation.
About
The Confédération des Organisations des Personnes Handicapées de Côte d'Ivoire (COPHCI) was established on 31 March 2012 as the national umbrella confederation for disability organisations in Côte d'Ivoire. Headquartered in Abidjan, COPHCI unites over a dozen federations, each representing a specific disability category, under a single voice for disability advocacy.
What They Do
COPHCI conducts awareness-raising campaigns, organises workshops, and engages directly with government bodies to improve conditions for people with disabilities. Recent achievements include successfully advocating for a dedicated desk for persons with disabilities at the Youth Employment Agency (AGEFOP), hosting multi-stakeholder forums on economic inclusion, and co-organising the International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrations. COPHCI works to ensure people with disabilities are represented in national decision-making processes.
Who They Serve
COPHCI serves people with all types of disabilities across Côte d'Ivoire — physical, visual, hearing, intellectual, and psychosocial — acting as a unified voice in negotiations with the government, private sector, and development partners. Its member federations extend the confederation's reach to communities throughout the country.
