Confédération des Organisations des Personnes Handicapées de Côte d'Ivoire(COPHCI)
National confederation founded in 2012 that unites more than a dozen disability federations across Côte d'Ivoire to advocate for inclusion and negotiate with government on behalf of persons with disabilities. COPHCI coordinates awareness workshops, community events, and policy engagement to break down social and physical barriers facing the disability community.
About
The Confédération des Organisations des Personnes Handicapées de Côte d'Ivoire (COPHCI) was created on 31 March 2012 to give the disability community of Côte d'Ivoire a single, unified voice in dealings with government and civil society. Based in Abidjan, it serves as an umbrella body for more than a dozen member federations, each organised around a specific disability type or need.
What They Do
COPHCI focuses primarily on awareness-raising, community engagement, and direct advocacy. The confederation lobbies government agencies — including the Ministry of Employment and the Youth Employment Agency — for inclusive recruitment policies and dedicated services for persons with disabilities. It also runs workshops and community events that connect disadvantaged disability communities with Ivorian governing bodies and social-protection systems.
Who They Serve
COPHCI represents the full spectrum of persons with disabilities in Côte d'Ivoire across all ages. Member federations address physical, visual, hearing, intellectual, and psychosocial disabilities, making COPHCI the broadest disability coalition in the country.
