About

The Deutscher Behindertenrat (DBR) was founded on 3 December 1999 — International Day of Persons with Disabilities — in Berlin. It brings together the major national organisations of disabled and chronically ill people in Germany into a single political action alliance.

What They Do

DBR represents the collective interests of disabled and chronically ill people before the German government, Bundestag, and public authorities. It coordinates lobbying on flagship legislation such as the Federal Participation Act (BTHG), campaigns for accessibility and anti-discrimination, and represents German disability organisations at European level through membership in the European Disability Forum (EDF).

Who They Serve

DBR advocates for more than 2.5 million people with physical, sensory, intellectual, and psychosocial disabilities, as well as those with chronic illnesses and their families throughout Germany.
