Disability Rights Iowa(DRI)
Disability Rights Iowa is Iowa's federally funded Protection & Advocacy organisation, advancing the rights of Iowans with disabilities and mental illness through legal representation, investigation, and peer advocacy. DRI prioritises employment, voting rights, and access to Home and Community Based Services.
About
Disability Rights Iowa (DRI) is a statewide, not-for-profit Protection & Advocacy organisation dedicated to advancing the rights of Iowans with disabilities, including those with mental illness. As a federally funded P&A system headquartered in Des Moines, DRI carefully directs its limited resources to serve the breadth of Iowa's disability community.
What They Do
DRI provides quality legal representation, investigates abuse and neglect in care settings, supports peer and self-advocacy, and engages in legislative and regulatory advocacy. Priority areas include employment rights, voting access, and Home and Community Based Services that allow people with disabilities to remain in their communities rather than institutions.
Who They Serve
Iowa residents of all ages with physical, psychiatric, intellectual, and developmental disabilities — with special attention to individuals at risk of institutionalisation or experiencing systemic barriers to community participation.
