About

The Disability Rights Legal Center (DRLC) was founded in 1975 as the Western Law Center for the Handicapped, making it one of California's oldest disability rights legal organisations. A 501(c)(3) public interest advocacy organisation, DRLC is headquartered in Los Angeles and also serves the Inland Empire through a satellite office at the University of La Verne College of Law.

What They Do

DRLC provides free and low-cost legal assistance through litigation, mediation, and community education. The organisation operates a State Bar–certified Lawyer Referral Service for disability cases across seven Southern California counties, covering employment, public accommodation access, and administrative law. Its Community Outreach Program delivers training on disability rights, special education law, and self-advocacy to the public and private sector.

Who They Serve

People with disabilities and individuals affected by cancer throughout Southern California. Over 90% of DRLC's clients are low-income individuals who face significant barriers to legal aid for disability and illness-related challenges.
