Organization
Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation(FDPF)
The Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation is the national cross-disability umbrella organisation in Fiji, led and managed by persons with disabilities. Established in the late 1970s and incorporated under its current name in 2012, FDPF coordinates four major disability affiliates and advocates for disability rights across the country.
About
The Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation (FDPF) traces its origins to the late 1970s when a group of persons with disabilities organised as the Fiji Paraplegic Committee. The movement broadened in 1984 to become the Fiji Disabled Peoples Association, and was renamed FDPF in 2012 to reflect its cross-disability mandate. Today it is the leading disabled-led umbrella body in Fiji and is recognised under the Charitable Trust Act.
What They Do
FDPF advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities in alignment with Fiji's commitments under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the National Disability Inclusive Development Policy. It coordinates four major affiliate organisations: the Fiji Association for the Deaf (FAD), Psychiatric Survivors Association (PSA), Spinal Injury Association (SIA), and United Blind Persons of Fiji (UBP).
Who They Serve
FDPF serves people with all types of disabilities across Fiji — including physical, visual, hearing, and psychiatric disabilities — through its affiliated organisations and direct national advocacy.
