Organization
Funktionsrätt Sverige
Funktionsrätt Sverige (formerly Handikappförbunden) is Sweden's national federation of 41 disability organisations, representing approximately 400,000 members and operating since 1942. As the unified voice of the Swedish disability movement, it advocates for equal rights and inclusion before government, parliament, and national authorities.
About
Funktionsrätt Sverige was formed in 1942 as Handikappförbunden and renamed in 2018 to reflect a rights-based framing — "funktionsrätt" meaning "disability rights." Headquartered in Sundbyberg, the federation brings together 41 national disability organisations representing people with a wide range of disabilities.
What They Do
Funktionsrätt Sverige lobbies the Riksdag and national authorities for disability rights legislation, produces policy reports and consultation responses, and coordinates common campaigns across member organisations. It monitors Sweden's implementation of the UN CRPD and advocates for accessible public environments, inclusive education, and equal participation in working life.
Who They Serve
People with physical, intellectual, psychosocial, and sensory disabilities across Sweden, through its diverse network of 41 member disability organisations.
