About

Founded in 1957, Independent Living Resources (ILR) is one of the oldest Centers for Independent Living in the Pacific Northwest, based in Portland, Oregon. Governed and staffed by a majority of people with disabilities, ILR embodies the Independent Living movement's core principle of cross-disability, peer-led service.

What They Do

ILR provides individual advocacy, peer counseling, independent living skills training, information and referral, and transition services for people leaving institutions or nursing facilities. ILR also offers Work Incentive Planning and Assistance (WIPA) services to help people navigate employment alongside disability benefits.

Who They Serve

ILR serves people with any disability in the Portland area, with priority for those facing the greatest barriers to community participation, including individuals exiting institutions, unhoused people with disabilities, and seniors at risk of nursing facility placement.
