About

Indiana Disability Rights (IDR), formerly Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services (IPAS), is an independent state agency established in 1977 to protect and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities throughout Indiana. IDR is overseen by the IPAS Commission and operates from Indianapolis.

What They Do

IDR provides legal representation, investigates abuse and neglect in facilities serving people with disabilities, and offers training to schools, employers, law enforcement, and disability organisations. Its six federally mandated programmes include protection for individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illness, and those navigating Social Security benefits.

Who They Serve

Indianaians with any disability — including physical, cognitive, psychiatric, and sensory disabilities — particularly those experiencing rights violations, denial of services, or barriers to community participation.
