Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities(JCPD)
The JCPD is the Jamaican government agency responsible for promoting, protecting, and ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities across the island. It provides rehabilitation, vocational training, and placement services to support full participation in national life.
About
Established under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) is the premier national body mandated to advance the rights, independence, and inclusion of persons with disabilities in Jamaica. Jamaica was one of the first countries worldwide to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
What They Do
JCPD provides vocational rehabilitation assessments and training, job placement support, public education campaigns, and accessible information resources for disabled Jamaicans. The Council coordinates with private sector employers, educational institutions, and government ministries to promote equal opportunity and reduce discrimination.
Who They Serve
JCPD serves Jamaicans of all ages with physical, visual, hearing, intellectual, psychiatric, and other disabilities, as well as their families and the professionals who support them.
