LIFE is headquartered in Jackson and funded under Title VII of the Rehabilitation Act.
About
L.I.F.E. of Mississippi is a nonprofit centre for independent living (CIL) headquartered at 1304 Vine Street in Jackson. Consumer-controlled and community-based, LIFE has served as a cornerstone of the disability rights movement in Mississippi for over three decades, working from the principle that people with disabilities are the best experts on their own needs.
What They Do
LIFE provides the five core independent living services: peer support, independent living skills training, information and referral, individual and systems advocacy, and community transition services. The organisation helps individuals with significant disabilities move from nursing facilities or hospitals back into community living, and trains consumers in self-advocacy skills.
Who They Serve
LIFE serves Mississippians of all ages with significant physical, sensory, cognitive, or psychiatric disabilities, with a focus on maximising personal choice, self-determination, and community inclusion rather than institutional care.
