About
Myanmar Independent Living Initiative (MILI) was established in Yangon on 8 May 2011 to launch the independent living movement for persons with disabilities in Myanmar. Led entirely by disabled persons, MILI has grown to 28 local branches across 10 regions and states, with over 4,752 members and 48 staff, making it one of the largest disability-led organisations in the country.
What They Do
MILI works across seven pillars of inclusion: livelihood, employment, education, health, disaster risk reduction, political participation, and barrier-free environments. The organisation has played a direct role in enacting and amending Myanmar's Disability Rights Law, National Education Law, and Election Bylaws, and operates social enterprise initiatives to support economic independence for members.
Who They Serve
Persons with physical, sensory, intellectual, and multiple disabilities throughout Myanmar, from urban centres to rural communities, through a network of local branches that provide direct support, peer advocacy, and political representation.
