National Assembly of Persons with Disabilities of Ukraine(NAIU)
The National Assembly of Persons with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAIU) is Ukraine's principal disability rights umbrella organisation, founded in 2001 and uniting 26 national and 93 regional disability organisations. Operating on the principle of "Nothing for us without us," it prepares CRPD-aligned legislation and provides humanitarian support to disabled people during the ongoing conflict.
About
NAIU (Національна Асамблея людей з інвалідністю України) was established in 2001 and has grown to become Ukraine's largest disability civil society network, representing 26 national and 93 regional disability organisations. It is a member of the European Disability Forum and Disabled Peoples' International, and a prominent voice for Ukrainian disabled people in international forums.
What They Do
NAIU drafts legislative proposals aligned with the UN CRPD, monitors government disability policy, and submits alternative reports to UN treaty bodies. Since 2022 it has played a critical role in providing information, advocacy, and humanitarian coordination for the estimated three million Ukrainians with disabilities affected by the armed conflict, including those who acquired disabilities as a result of the war.
Who They Serve
NAIU serves people with all types of disability across Ukraine — physical, sensory, intellectual, psychiatric, and chronic illness — along with older persons with disabilities, war-wounded individuals, and their families.
