Papua New Guinea Assembly of Disabled Persons(PNGADP)
PNGADP is the national body representing organisations of persons with disabilities in Papua New Guinea, initiated in 2002 to promote and protect their rights and advocate for their needs. The organisation has formal partnerships with the Australian Government to mainstream disability-inclusive approaches in national infrastructure development.
About
The Papua New Guinea Assembly of Disabled Persons (PNGADP) was initiated in 2002 at an empowerment and leadership training event in Lae, Morobe Province. It serves as the national umbrella body for disabled people's organisations across Papua New Guinea, promoting and protecting the rights of people with disabilities and ensuring their inclusion in national development agendas.
What They Do
PNGADP advocates for disability rights and inclusive policy at the national level, engaging directly with government agencies and international development partners. The organisation has entered formal partnership agreements with the Australian Government to mainstream disability inclusion within large-scale infrastructure programmes, and works to ensure that disability perspectives are embedded in PNG's social and economic planning.
Who They Serve
PNGADP serves people with all types of disabilities across Papua New Guinea's diverse provinces and island regions, including in remote and rural communities where disability inclusion is most challenging. As a national assembly, it also supports and strengthens the member DPOs that deliver frontline services and peer support at the community level.
