About
The Utah Independent Living Center (UILC) was established in April 1982 as the first Independent Living Center in Utah, built on the consumer-control model that requires a majority of board and staff to be people with disabilities. Based in Salt Lake City and part of the national IL network, UILC serves consumers in Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties.
What They Do
UILC delivers the five federally mandated core services — peer support, information and referral, independent living skills training, individual and systems advocacy, and transition support — alongside an Assistive Technology Program providing device training, community networking, and equipment procurement assistance. Staff work one-on-one with each consumer to help them set and achieve their own independent living goals.
Who They Serve
People with any physical, sensory, cognitive, or psychiatric disability who live in Salt Lake, Summit, or Tooele counties and want to achieve greater independence — from individuals newly adjusting to disability to long-term community members seeking systemic advocacy support.
