Autism Focused Intervention Resources and Modules (AFIRM) is a project of the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, built by the National Professional Development Center on ASD (NPDC) and freely accessible to all. Module content reflects the evidence-based practices identified in the 2020 EBP Report, which synthesised outcomes from hundreds of peer-reviewed studies.
Each of the 27 modules focuses on a single practice — such as naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention, picture exchange, visual supports, video modelling, social narratives, or pivotal response training — and walks users through the research base, how to plan the practice, how to implement it step by step, and how to monitor outcomes with data sheets. Many modules are directly applicable to early intervention and inclusive preschool settings, and the site includes age-range tags so providers can filter for birth-to-5 content.
Early intervention providers, preschool special educators, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and behaviour analysts working with young children with autism; parents seeking structured, evidence-based strategies to implement at home.
