The Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ®) were developed at the University of Oregon and are now in their third edition (ASQ-3), published by Paul H. Brookes Publishing. Validated across multiple languages and cultures, the ASQ is used by paediatric clinics, early intervention programmes, and home-visiting services in over 100 countries, making it the most widely deployed developmental screener in the world.
Each 10-to-15-minute questionnaire asks parents straightforward, observation-based questions about their child's development across five areas: communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving, and personal-social skills. Results clearly indicate whether development is on track or whether further evaluation may be warranted. Families can complete the ASQ-3 for free through the Easterseals online portal without needing a professional to administer it.
Parents and caregivers of children from birth to age five-and-a-half who want an evidence-based way to monitor development at home and know when to request a professional evaluation. Paediatricians, early intervention coordinators, home visitors, and childcare providers use the ASQ as their primary developmental surveillance tool.
