The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) has been the leading source of free, expert, and confidential guidance on workplace accommodations and disability employment since 1983. Operated under a cooperative agreement with West Virginia University and funded by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), JAN serves individuals across every disability type and employment sector.
JAN connects people with disabilities — and their employers — to free one-on-one consulting via phone, email, and live chat to identify practical accommodation solutions. Its Searchable Online Accommodation Resource (SOAR) database catalogues thousands of accommodation ideas organised by disability and job function, and its Workplace Accommodation Toolkit guides both parties through the interactive process step by step. Over 50% of suggested accommodations cost nothing to implement.
JAN serves workers with any type of disability — physical, sensory, cognitive, psychiatric, or chronic — who need help requesting or implementing workplace accommodations. It is equally valuable for job seekers preparing for interviews, recent graduates disclosing a disability for the first time, and employees whose needs have changed due to an acquired disability or health condition.
