About this resource

About

Founded in 1989 by the family of J. Willard Marriott, Bridges from School to Work is operated by the Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities. The programme serves approximately 1,000 young adults per year across cities including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Washington DC.

What It Does

Bridges employment specialists work one-on-one with participants to explore career interests, build job-readiness skills, match them with local employers, and provide on-the-job coaching after placement. Employers receive no-cost consultation and support. The programme continues after job placement to help young people grow, advance, and navigate workplace challenges.

Who It Helps

Young adults with intellectual, developmental, physical, psychiatric, and learning disabilities aged 18–24 who are transitioning from special education into the workforce for the first time. Priority is given to individuals exiting high school or special education who have not yet held steady competitive employment.
