About this resource

About

Launched by the CDC in 2004, Learn the Signs. Act Early. is one of the most widely used early developmental screening initiatives in the United States. Grounded in research and reviewed by leading paediatricians and developmental specialists, it reaches families through healthcare settings, childcare programmes, and community outreach.

What It Does

The programme provides downloadable milestone checklists for ages 2 months to 5 years, a free "Milestones in Action" library of real-child photos and videos demonstrating each milestone, and professional training materials for healthcare providers. A national network of Act Early Ambassadors supports community-level outreach to improve early identification of developmental delays, autism, and other disabilities.

Who It Helps

Primarily aimed at families of young children, paediatricians, and early childhood educators seeking to identify developmental delays as early as possible. Particularly valuable for identifying early signs of autism, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, and other developmental conditions that benefit from early intervention.
