About this resource

About

Founded in 1975, The Hanen Centre is an internationally recognised Canadian nonprofit that trains speech-language pathologists to deliver evidence-based group programmes for parents of young children with communication challenges. Its programmes have been validated in peer-reviewed research across multiple countries and languages, making Hanen methods a global standard in early language intervention.

What It Does

Hanen's flagship programmes include It Takes Two to Talk® (for children with language delays, birth to age 5), More Than Words® (for children on the autism spectrum, ages 0–5), and TalkAbility™ (for verbal children with autism). The website provides free articles, tip sheets, and milestone guides for families on language development and autism, plus a programme-finder tool to locate locally available SLPs trained in Hanen methods.

Who It Helps

Parents and caregivers of young children aged birth to five with language delays, autism spectrum disorder, or other communication challenges who want practical strategies for daily routines. Speech-language pathologists use Hanen certification to deliver group-based parent coaching in clinic and community settings.
