My Next Move is developed and maintained by the National Center for ONET Development under contract to the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration. The ONET database is the nation's primary source of occupational information, and My Next Move presents this data in a streamlined, accessible format suitable for career explorers at any stage — from students to experienced workers considering a career pivot after disability onset.
The site's core tool is the O*NET Interest Profiler — a free 60-question assessment based on Holland's RIASEC model that takes around 20 minutes and produces a ranked interest profile linked to matching careers. Each occupation profile includes a plain-language description of work activities, typical knowledge and skills, wages, and employment outlook. A keyword search and a Browse by Industry option let users explore careers independently of the assessment.
My Next Move is used extensively in vocational rehabilitation settings by VR counsellors and their clients with physical, cognitive, sensory, and psychiatric disabilities who are exploring career options or planning a career transition. It is equally useful for transition-age youth with disabilities discovering career possibilities for the first time, recently disabled workers identifying transferable skills, and any job seeker wanting a structured, evidence-based starting point for career exploration.
