About this resource

About

PACER Center, based in Minneapolis and operating nationally, runs its National Parent Center on Transition and Employment with U.S. Department of Education support. It is built on the conviction that all youth with disabilities can achieve meaningful postsecondary outcomes given the right information and well-developed self-advocacy skills.

What It Does

The centre publishes plain-language guides explaining the legal differences between IEPs and college accommodation processes, step-by-step checklists for college visits and disability services meetings, and self-advocacy skill-builders for students transitioning off the IEP. Resources cover training and college opportunities, employment pathways, independent living, and assistive technology considerations for postsecondary settings, and many are available in Spanish.

Who It Helps

High school students with disabilities in the final years of secondary education, their parents and family members, transition specialists, and secondary educators preparing students for college, employment, or independent living.
