About this resource

About

Founded in 1977 by parents of children with disabilities and designated as the National Parent Center on Transition and Employment by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy, PACER provides nationwide technical assistance and publishes extensive transition resources for families of youth with any disability preparing for life after secondary school.

What It Does

The centre publishes a broad library of free publications, tip sheets, and video series on topics including vocational rehabilitation rights, pre-employment transition services (Pre-ETS for ages 14–22), postsecondary education options, Social Security work incentives, and supported employment. Planning tools help families document transition goals and connect with local vocational rehabilitation agencies, Employment Networks, and community support services.

Who It Helps

PACER Transition serves parents and guardians of young people aged 14–21 with any disability — including autism, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and psychiatric conditions — who are planning for life after high school. Youth themselves can also use many tools directly to explore their own transition rights, employment options, and self-advocacy skills.
