by STAR Institute for Sensory Processing
The STAR Institute (formerly the Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation) is based in Greenwood Village, Colorado, and is the foremost organisation dedicated to research, education, and treatment of Sensory Processing Disorder. Founded by Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, the institute has led SPD research and family education for over two decades and operates a specialised clinical treatment centre alongside its public education website at spdstar.org.
The website offers free parent guides explaining what SPD is, how it presents across infants and young children, and when an occupational therapy evaluation is warranted. A searchable therapist directory helps families locate sensory-trained OTs in their area. Additional resources include sensory strategies for home routines and preschool environments, articles on the seven sensory systems, and information about the play-based STAR Treatment Approach. The institute also provides professional development resources for OTs and early childhood educators.
Families of infants, toddlers, and young children who show signs of sensory processing differences, alongside early intervention occupational therapists, paediatricians, and preschool educators seeking evidence-based SPD resources. Online educational resources are free; clinical services at the institute are fee-based.
